Archive is a file type which contains compressed folders and files inside it. Or we can imagine it like a special directory too, hidden from file manager scan because the path is packed into a single file. There are many popular archive files with different mimes (file exteension), but some popular and most used is .zip , .rar , .7zip , .tar , .gzip , and many more.

Compress is a process to pack files and folders into a single of archive file, meanwhile Extract is a process to unpack an archive file to open all the packed files and folders inside the archive file. An archive file is also can be locked by a password included when the compressing process, which make this archive file is encrypted so it can be extracted only if we know the password.

On Android device itself, I am sure you had handle or interact with archive files before (at least for me, I am often do it on my Android phone).
